Short Teaching of "Chi-Lue"

Imparted by Lama Karma Kunzang dated February 13, 2000
Translated by Lama Yeshi Losal

What is CHI-LUE? Why we have to practice CHI-LUE?

We have accumulated countless of negative actions since beginningless time. Because of our stupidity and ignorance, we have harmed others both intensionally and unintentionally. That's why they were causing us all types of obstacle, even threatening our health, and shortening our life force. So, what should we do? As the compassionate mind of Lord Buddha towards all beings, he imparted the teaching of Chi-Lue.

Chi-Lue literally means protection from dying. It is the practice of compassion and generosity toward to those owed with karma debts and demons. It will clear up our negative karma, This is reason why we should practice Chi-Lue.

During the puja, we have to prepare two statues. The statues represented our body are to be offered to those spirits who wished to kill us. This is to pay off those we owed with karmic debts. Visualized that we are offering this body to fulfill their satisfaction when these statues are taking out. All those spirits that tried to take our life will follow the statue out. All the obstacles follow it out too. Through the power of prayer, mantra, mudra, and visualization, the generosity we made will become real. Thus they can actually enjoy it. When throwing the statues out, all those spirits that were expecting our life will be happy due to the great generosity we made.

This puja is very helpful to those who are seriously sick, since it does purify our negative karma, and accumulate great merits. Then good luck will follow soon. As the conclusion of the practice, we should offer these merits to the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of three times and ten directions, then dedicate the merits to all sentient beings without exception.
